The SIUT is an independent private degree awarding institution, recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan in 2009. A range of training programs are offered for undergraduate and postgraduates studies for doctors, nurses and medical technologists primarily in the field of renal diseases and transplant. Research is also an intrinsic part of education in medicine and constitutes an important element of the studies in all disciplines.

There are training programs in urology, nephrology and transplantation as well as gastroenterology, infectious diseases. SIUT prepares doctors for Fellowships and Memberships of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan (CPSP) and offers research-based degrees in the following: MS/MD in Urology and Nephrology, MPhil and PhD in Basic Biomedical Sciences. The Centre of Biomedical Ethics and Culture (CBEC) at the SIUT offers a postgraduate diploma (PGD) as well as a master (MBE) in biomedical ethics.
